Attendance Markings for your school is a permissions-based task and allow you to create custom attendance markings.
Creating Attendance Markings for your school is a permissions-based task. If you do not see options and/or buttons mentioned in this documentation, then you may need to contact an administrator for your account. Teachers are unable to create Attendance Markings, an admin must create any attendance marking that may be needed for the school.
Attendance Markings settings are found in the Settings page, under Classroom Settings.
To Create a new Attendance Marking
- Click +Attendance Marking to add a new marking.
- Fill in the relevant fields:
- Value: This will be the name of the marking.
- Color: This will be the color code for the marking.
- Code: This will be the letter short code for entering it into the attendance record. For example: a Present marking code may be P.
-

- Default Marking: This will be the default marking. Only one marking can be the default, many schools make Present their default marking.

- Notify When Marked: This will send a notification to the guardians of the student each time they receive this marking.
- Group by Date Received: This will combine all markings for a single date into 1.
You are absent 1 time for the entire day, as opposed to absent 6 times for the day, once for each class.

- Click Save once all relevant fields are complete.
EXAMPLES:
Each scenario below shows how absences will show on the Progress Report with the difference between Group by Date Received selected (Blue) and not selected (White). When you see "(Days)" this means an attendance marking is Grouped by Date Received. In these examples there are 45 school days and 5 classes per day. In the first five examples, the teacher marks a student "Present" or "Absent."
1) Student is marked absent in one class
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 44 Present - 224
Absent (Days) - 1 Absent - 1
2) Student is marked absent in 3 classes on one day
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 44 Present - 222
Absent (Days) - 1 Absent - 3
3) Student is marked absent in 3 classes on different days
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 42 Present - 222
Absent (Days) - 3 Absent - 3
4) Student is marked absent in all 5 classes on one day
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 44 Present - 22o
Absent (Days) - 1 Absent - 5
Using the same example from above, this is how the Progress Report would look if you created an additional marking called "Missed Class" that would be used by the office instead of "Absent." If the student misses a class, the teacher marks "Missed Class" and if the student is Absent the entire day an office Admin goes in at some point in the day and marks the student as "Absent."
**Missed Class is not grouped by Date Received
1) Student is marked absent in one class
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 45 Present - 224
Absent (Days) - 0 Absent - 0
Missed Class - 1 Missed Class - 1
2) Student is marked absent in 3 classes on one day
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 44 Present - 222
Absent (Days) - 0 Absent - 0
Missed Class - 3 Missed Class - 3
3) Student is marked absent in 3 classes on different days
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 42 Present - 222
Absent (Days) - 0 Absent - 0
Missed Class - 3 Missed Class - 3
4) Student is marked absent in all 5 classes on one day (Admin changes all "Missed Class" marks to "Absent.")
Group by Date Received Not Grouped
Present (Days) - 44 Present - 22o
Absent (Days) - 1 Absent - 5
Missed Class - 0 Missed Class - 0
