Module 5 - Courses

 

Video Summary

After completing setup (departments, gradebook, etc.), you can create courses from the Courses page.


Required Fields for a Course

  • Course name (e.g., “Math Third Grade”)

  • Course number (internal identifier)

  • Course abbreviation (e.g., “MA03”)

  • Department (must be preconfigured)


Optional/Additional Fields

  • Description:

    • For admin reference only (not visible to families)

  • Course tuition & deposit:

    • Used only by Pro-tier schools for billing

  • Course options:

    • Examples: Honors/AP (GPA), Campus

    • Optional depending on setup

  • Academic level:

    • Primarily used for filtering courses, not functional elsewhere


Progress Report Inclusion

  • Included in progress reports (Yes/No):

    • Yes → appears on student progress reports

    • No → hidden from reports

  • Use “No” for non-academic or organizational courses, such as:

    • Homeroom

    • Sports teams

    • Clubs

    • Study halls or group activities


Use Cases for Courses Beyond Academics

  • Attendance tracking (e.g., teams, clubs)

  • Targeted messaging to specific groups

  • Scheduling non-academic activities


Final Step

  • Click Save to create the course

  • Course is now ready for section creation and student enrollment
