Module 5 - Section Info

Video Summary

The Section Info page is accessed after creating a section and functions similarly to the Course Info page, allowing edits and management of section details.

Editing Limitations

  • Some settings become locked once the school year starts or grades exist, including:

    • Grading unit group

    • Gradebook settings

  • These can only be changed if:

    • No grades exist (or grades are deleted, which removes data)

Core Section Management

  • You can view and manage:

    • Assigned teacher(s) (add or remove)

    • Students (add, remove, or adjust enrollment)

  • Shows:

    • Students awaiting enrollment

      • Requested during Course Registration

      • Not yet officially enrolled until approved

    • Waitlisted students (if enabled, Pro schools)

      • Can be added or removed from the waitlist

      • Can be moved into the section if a seat opens

Capacity & Enrollment Tools (Pro Schools)

  • Supports seat capacity tracking

  • Allows:

    • Enrolling waitlisted students

    • Removing students if needed

  • Helps manage overfilled or limited-capacity classes

Deleting a Section

  • A section can be deleted only if:

    • No teachers are assigned

    • No students are enrolled

  • Warning:

    • Deleting removes all data permanently (attendance, grades, records)

  • If grades exist, deleting the section is not possible

Additional Features

  • Standards tab appears if standards-based grading is enabled

  • View Class Info:

    • Opens teacher/classroom view (covered separately) - see next video

  • Reports available from Section Info:

    • Print student rosters

    • Generate grade reports for all students

Key Takeaways

  • Section Info is the control center for an active class

  • It manages enrollment, staffing, and reporting

  • Some settings become locked once grading begins

  • Deletion is possible but should be treated as an “oops recovery” action only
