This example scenario illustrates how attendance markings are reported on the Progress Report and the difference between "Grouped by Date Received" and not grouped.
Attendance Markings and how they're reported in Progress Reports
This student's Progress Report shows the following Attendance report. This is a record of 4 days recorded in October (1 Week, M-Th) and it includes attendance taken for three sections - Algebra 1, Biology and Spanish. The details of the attendance in each section is shown below.

Each one of the attendance markings and values are explained below. Note the difference between Present, Absent and Tardy, Leave Early. Present, Absent are grouped by day received. Attendance Markings are set up in Settings > Attendance
Note that Present is set up as follows:
- Show in Totals: Yes - this displays the marking on the Progress Report
- Group by Date Received: Yes - this will show "(days)" on the Progress Report next to the marking (see above) and if one or more sections in a given day indicate "P" for Present then the student is considered present for that day and it counts as "1" day present on the Progress Report. The alternative "No" option for Group by Date Received would count every section marked "P" for that day and show that total on the Progress Report.

Below is an explanation of each Progress Report marking for the given example at the top of the page. The student is marked Present for 4 days, Tardy for 1 section, Absent for 1 day and Leave Early for 1 section.
Present (days)
- Present shows Present (days) = 4
- He was Present for 3 days in Alg 1, 4 days in Biology, 0 days in Spanish (see below)
- If Present was NOT grouped by day received, he would have Present = 7
Tardy
- Tardy = 1
- He was tardy for 1 section (Alg 1)
- NOT grouped by day received
- Doesn’t count toward Absent or Present totals
Absent
- Absent (days) = 1
- He was marked absent for 1 class (Spanish, Oct 21)
- Absent is grouped by day received, just like Present, so for Oct 21 he gets a P and an A
on the Progress Report. This is double counting
- We recommend using this code ONLY when the student is out all day
Leave Early
- Leave Early = 1
- Spanish class, Oct 22
- This marking (an alternative name could be “Missed Class”) is used instead of Absent
- It’s intended for leaving school early for a sports game or appointment
- It doesn’t impact Absent to Present totals
Excused
- Excused = 1
- Spanish class, Oct 23
- This is a marking that doesn’t show on the Progress Report
- It doesn’t impact Absent or Present totals
